Inuit Ivory Carving of Man on SnowshoesThis is an unusual carving of an Inuit in a parka wearing snowshoes. He was probably part of an assembly with a sled and dogs. His hands are out and parallel and there is a thin piece leather or sinew between the hands which was broken off from the lines going to the sled. The snowshoes he is wearing are separately made and made well. He is mounted on a black wood block. He was probably originally mounted on a long ivory slab holding the sled, dogs
